Dear Wash Families,

I want to share information about a new Hallway Sweep Protocol we are putting in place to help maintain a safe, orderly, and disruption-free learning environment for all students.

As you know, consistent classroom attendance and minimal hallway interruptions are key to academic success. To support this, we will be conducting periodic hallway sweeps throughout the school year.

What Happens During a Hallway Sweep

  • Staff will close and lock classroom doors once the sweep begins.
  • Any student found in the hallway without a pass will be directed to the foyer.
  • Students gathered in the foyer will then be walked together back to class once the sweep concludes to reduce disruptions and ensure safe movement.

What Staff Will Do

  • Teachers will help redirect students using calm, consistent phrases such as:
    • “Please head toward the foyer.”
    • “Let’s move this way—we’re starting a hallway sweep.”
  • Staff members who are on their preparation period will assist in sweeping hallways and guiding students.

Student Consequences

Students brought to the foyer during a sweep will receive consequences based on the number of times they have been redirected:

  1. 1st Offense: Parent/guardian notification
  2. 2nd Offense: Parent/guardian notification
  3. 3rd Offense: Lunch detention
  4. 4th Offense: In-School Suspension (ISS)

Please know our goal is not to punish students, but to encourage responsibility, reduce lost instructional time, and help them build routines that support their academic success.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your partnership in supporting a positive and focused learning environment for all students.
