Hello Washington Families,

I wanted to take a moment to inform you of an incident that occurred at our school this afternoon, which prompted us to activate our HOLD Safety Protocol. As a reminder, the HOLD Safety Protocol clears the hallways and instructs staff and students to stay in their rooms and close and lock the doors. Regular classroom activities continue as usual. The HOLD lasted approximately 15 minutes.

A fellow student experienced a medical issue during class on the second floor of the building. Our school staff and nurse responded immediately to assist the student, and the situation was handled swiftly and effectively.

At CRCSD and Washington High School, open communication and collaboration between students, staff, families, and our community are essential to creating a safe and supportive learning environment. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Theresa Hall

Principal, Washington High School

The volunteer program at Cedar Rapids Community School District supports classroom instruction and co-curricular activities. Volunteers are key in supporting instructional programs and enriching the learning environment. CRCSD makes every reasonable effort to provide a safe learning environment for students working with volunteers.

A volunteer application is required annually of all volunteers who work with students directly or regularly assist staff, supervise/chaperone students, or act as an authority figure. Please complete this application if you are interested in serving as an education volunteer with CRCSD. All volunteer applications will be checked against the national sex offender database and are subject to a background check.

If you have questions, please contact the CRCSD volunteer office at volunteer@crschools.us.
