Interact Club (Wash Service/Volunteer Club)
My name is Ms. Maus and I teach Geometry in room 249. I am the Interact Club sponsor here at Wash.
Interact is a student group that volunteers to serve our school and school community. The motto for Interact is “Service Above Self.”
Currently, Interact meets once a month every second Monday in my room 249, from 3-3:30PM.
Interact has two goals each year (students will decide these goals each Fall):
1. To come up with a service project that benefits our community and 2. volunteer in a service project that benefits our school. The service project Interact did this year was donating a mini library to Wright Elementary school. Students were in charge of communicating with stakeholders, creating advertisements to collect book donations, working with Daybreak Rotary (they sponsor Interact) to collect more donations, painting our mini library, creating bookmarks, and reading to Wright Elementary students early April with the books that were collected. It was a neat experience!
2. Students have helped volunteer in concessions, this past weekend students helped with Garden Clean up here at Wash, and we also serve meals to the homeless through 1st Presbyterian Church SEMP program every 2nd Sunday of the month from 4-6PM.
Every meeting I provide snacks and we just made Interact t-shirts this year, those will be for sale next year to members as well. Everyone is welcome to join Interact or come to a couple meetings to see what it is about. It’s always fun to bring a friend, but we have very welcoming Interact officers that would make students feel welcome and right at home.
