WAC (Warrior Athletic Club) Welcome Back Night: Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 at 6:00 pm in the Courtyard.
Families and student-athletes involved in or interested in sports are welcome to attend and to receive information regarding sports!
New Student Orientation (Freshmen and Transfer Students): Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the New Gym. Registration begins at 12:00 p.m. in the Main Gym, with orientation activities from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm Students will receive their class schedules, meet staff and classmates, and learn about life at Washington High School. There is a $25 Orientation Fee, which covers the orientation shirt and pizza lunch. If you need assistance with the orientation fee, please contact Amal Alyassiri at alyassiri@crschools.us prior to orientation.
Parent Town Hall Meeting: Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. in our WHS Auditorium.
All Washington High School families are invited to join Mr. Ballard for our first Town Hall Meeting of the school year. Learn about important school updates, ways to get involved, and what to expect this year. There will also be time for questions and discussion. This is the first of many Town Hall Meetings that will be held throughout the school year to keep families informed and connected.

Warrior Walkthrough Open House & College/Career Fair: Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Join us for an evening of connection as we welcome families back to Washington High School! Visit classrooms, meet teachers, and connect with the people who support your student’s success. Connect with Washington groups and organizations to learn how you can get involved, and explore post-high school opportunities with college, trade, and military representatives in the Small Gym.

Annual Verification
Each year, it is important for returning CRCSD families to update their child’s emergency contacts, fill out yearly field trips and laptop device agreements, complete eligibility for reduced school fees, and update contact information. Please login to your Infinite Campus parent portal to complete it by September 30th.
Infinite Campus
The Infinite Campus portal provides students and parents with real-time access to assignments, grades, schedule, announcements, attendance, fees and more. Portal accounts for students and legal guardians are automatically created when a student is enrolled. It is important that parents obtain their own login and that they do not use their student's login to access the portal. If your student qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program, you may apply to have the consumable materials fee waived (see below). This waiver does not carry over from year to year. It must be applied for annually.

Free/ Reduced Meal Application
Approved free/reduced meal applications also qualifies families for these additional benefits:
- $100 consumable material fee will be adjusted based on meal benefits. PPA will pay fees if your student is in a performing arts group
- Reduced technology replacement fees
- Reduced Activity Ticket fee
- Reduced fees for ACT and AP exams
My student’s application was approved last year. Do I need to fill out a new one?
YES! Applications must be renewed yearly. If you think you qualify (or qualified in the past), please apply at the link below.
Please make sure Release Agreements are set to "Yes" in Infinite Campus when you update your annual verification for student fees to be adjusted. If you have any questions regarding the meal application, please contact food and nutrition at (319) 558-2305.

Bus Transportation
By Iowa law, the District is obligated to transport students who wish to ride and are eligible. For most high school students, this means living 3 or more miles from the high school in your residence area.

Warrior Closet & Warrior Kitchen
Warrior Closet
The Warrior Closet is a free supply center providing new and gently used clothing, school supplies, and toiletries for Washington students. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Thursday, 8:00am - 3:00pm, or by appointment with Amy Rouse. View the Warrior Closet Facebook page here.
- Acceptable items: T-shirts, sweatpants, yoga pants, gym shorts, gym shoes, underwear & socks (new only), backpacks, school supplies, toiletries, winter coats & accessories, prom/homecoming attire, interview wear.

Warrior Kitchen - *Open during the school year
The Warrior Kitchen, in partnership with HACAP, provides resources to Washington families. The Warrior Pantry provides take-home meals for families, personal care, and household items based on availability. Please contact the main office at 319-558-2161 for more information. Some items may require the completion of the TEFAP form. The form remains valid for the school year. You can apply below.
Athletic Pass
There are several different types of sport passes and individual tickets offered for the 2026-2027 school year. To see a list of passes offered along with their descriptions, please visit the Bound website as they become available. You may also visit the athletics page for a list of clubs offered at Washington.
The purchase of a student activity pass allows students to attend most Washington activities FREE of charge. An Activity Pass will show as an icon on your student ID. Student activity passes can be purchased through Infinite Campus under the fees tab or by contacting our bookkeeper at 319-558-2161.
* If a student has poor attendance, academics, or behavior, it could impact their ability to attend events.
** There are no refunds if a student purchases a pass, but then can’t attend for the above reasons.

Athletic Registration
Before students can begin participating in a Washington sports team, they must complete an athletic registration.
Campus Restrictions
Lunch
- Closed Lunch: Freshmen and Sophomores who have a class may not leave the campus during their lunch period, and they must remain in approved areas of the campus during that time.
- Open Lunch: All Seniors and Juniors have open lunch and may leave campus or be in approved areas on campus.
Approved areas include the cafeteria and its open hallways, and the courtyard. Other areas, such as parking lots or athletic fields are unauthorized.
Food Deliveries to Washington Are Not Permitted
Washington High School does not permit food deliveries to students during the school day. The main office will not accept or deliver food from restaurants, delivery services, or other outside vendors. Unauthorized deliveries may be refused or discarded.
Repeated violations may result in disciplinary action and/or a parent/guardian meeting.
Release Periods
Freshmen and Sophomores must have a completed Release Period Permission Authorization Form (9th & 10th Grade) to leave campus with the understanding that students who have a release period MAY NOT BE IN THE BUILDING OR ON SCHOOL PROPERTY during this time. This form is good for the entire school year. You may revoke this privilege at any time by calling the attendance office at 319-558-2161 Option 2. Administration reserves the right to cancel this privilege and will contact the parents if doing so. If this permission form is not completed, 9th and 10th-grade students will be assigned and required to attend a study hall during their open hour. Missing study halls may impact in good standing or eligibility as this is a required class to attend if it's on the schedule.
* Juniors and Seniors have open campus and thus do not need an authorization form completed to leave campus during their open hours of the day. However, if juniors and seniors are in the building during their open period, they must be in the library.
School Supplies
Supply needs will be explained at New Student Orientation, during the walk-through of classes, and during the first week of classes. Teachers may have specific supply requests for their classes.

Lockers
Lockers are available upon request. Students who would like a locker should contact Amal Alyassiri or stop by the Freshman Academy Office. Locker assignments are based on availability.
Calculators
While the school will have some calculators available, students find it beneficial to own one for personal use.
While a graphing calculator is an expensive purchase, a TI 84 Plus CE is about $120, it can be used throughout all 4 years of high school and the ACT, SAT, AP Precalculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics allow the use of this graphing calculator. Other TI-8X models or TI-9X models either have too little or too much capability and are not allowed.
If you are looking to get through a single year and NOT purchase a graphing calculator, Algebra One students (the class a majority of our 9th graders will be taking) could use a TI-30XIIS (currently around $15). It would work for one year, maybe two years. While any scientific calculator with fraction capabilities could work for this class, if you are purchasing a new one for this year, the Washington Math Department prefers the TI-30XIIS.
Technology
If you are experiencing any issues with your Chromebook or have technology-related questions, please contact Washington High School Technology Facilitator Scott McWherter.
Mr. McWherter is available throughout the summer to assist students and families. If your Chromebook is not working properly, please do not wait until the start of the school year to have it repaired. Chromebooks may be dropped off at the Washington High School Main Office for repair and will be available for pickup once the repairs are complete.
You may also contact Mr. McWherter by calling the Washington High School Main Office at 319-558-2161 and selecting Option 8 (Technology) during office hours. If he is unavailable, please leave a voicemail, and he will return your call as soon as possible.
Counselling
Student schedules will be available for viewing in mid-August.
Please be patient as counselors are not on contract in July.
The Washington Counseling Department is available to assist students with a variety of needs throughout the
school year. Here are just a few of the ways counselors serve Washington students and their families.
- Academic Planning: Registering for classes, schedule changes, opportunities for learning off campus, advocate for students with special needs, counsel students on how to be successful in the classroom
- College and Career Planning: Job shadows, apprenticeships, college search and application process, financial aid, scholarship applications, recommendation letters, resume building
- Personal & Social Support: Helping students in crisis situations, finding solutions to personal and social problems, encouraging students to do their best in all aspects of their lives, making referrals for more serious mental health concerns. Student Publications: The Monument
The Monument is in its 70th year of production archiving memorable events and moments of Washington High School’s proud history. 2025-26 yearbooks will be available for pickup in fall 2026. For more information for the 2025-26 yearbook please contact Monument Yearbook Advisor, Leah Schmickley at lschmickley@crschools.us.

Senior Photo Submission Process:
- Email a jpg or jpeg file of the senior photo to monumentyearbook@crschools.us
- Please put the senior's First and Last names in the subject line.
- Photos must be submitted to the yearbook staff before Spring Break.
Criteria for senior photos:
- photo is a vertical headshot (so there is no need to crop);
- NO PROPS, children, animals, other people, or sunglasses
- No selfies or filters
- Pictures without a watermark
Washington Literary Press
Subscribe and support Washington HS writers & artists!
Throughout the year, the Washington Literary Press (WLP) compiles students' prose, poetry, art, and photography into published issues. We aim to release four regular issues ("The Unfortunate Mr. Farrows"), which we sell for $2 each, as well as our end-of-the-year issue, Fingerprints, which sells for $7.00. Purchasing issues allows you to support the literary and artistic efforts of Washington High School students—we could not get our issues to print without your financial support and the artistic talent of your student! Purchases can be made through Mr. Mark Hilton or at our annual Poetry, Art, and Music (PAM) Slam event.
Driver’s Education
Driver’s Education classes are no longer offered in Cedar Rapids Schools. Students have a lot of options in the community to complete a Driver’s Education course. Families who are eligible for Free/Reduced Priced fees should contact the company to inquire about how to waive fees.
Safe Driver, Driver's Education is located at Jefferson High School and will work with families in the CRCSD who are eligible for Free/Reduced Prices.
