All families are welcome to attend our monthly general meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Each month, we have the Principal and another staff member in attendance. This is a wonderful way for you to learn first-hand about the announcements, events, and updates for your child's school. These meetings take place in person at the school's library and also virtually, so you can join from anywhere. All Wash families will receive an email with meeting information a few days before the meeting. You do not have to be a ‘member’ to attend these meetings.

The Washington Athletic Club (WAC) is a non-profit organization that helps support our high school athletic department. WAC is made up of Washington High School families, community members, and other supporters.
Every dollar raised by WAC stays at our school. We donate money directly to the Washington athletic department to help fund all 22 sports at Washington. WAC hosts fall sports night, the homecoming bonfire and hall of fame night. WAC also manages concessions at home sporting events.
If you are interested in supporting WAC or would like information on upcoming volunteer opportunities please email wac.warriors1@gmail.com
PPA (Patrons of Performing Arts)
Patrons of the Performing Arts (PPA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with the specific goal of promoting arts education and access to performance arts opportunities for students at George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funding areas include Drama, Speech, Choral Music, Technical Theater, Orchestra, Dance Team, Band, Color Guard and equipment and supplies in fine arts venues and classrooms.
PPA was established in 1983, became a nonprofit in 1985, and to this day families, friends and alumni contribute countless hours, talent and financial contributions with a mission to ensure that every student can participate in the performing arts at Washington High School (WHS) where, as of 2025, 49% of the 1,100 student population is on free-and-reduced lunch.
The fine arts programs supported by PPA at Washington H.S. include Marching Band, Color Guard, Concert Band, The Revolutionists, Jazz Also, Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra, Concert Choir, Concert Chorale, Slice of Jazz, Madrigal Singers, Washington Singers, Show Choirs - Momentum and Celebration, Drama (three productions per year), Speech (large group and individual), Dance Team and Technical Theater (applications in construction, lighting, audio, costuming and engineering). Approximately 600 students participate directly in programs annually, with 1,000 volunteers supporting the school’s faculty and thousands of community members able to attend. Many of the programs are free to attend though participation often requires fees if alternate funding isn’t secured.
In support of the programs above, PPA provides all needed volunteers and also raises dollars to close fine arts funding gaps for student fees, uniforms, choreography, instruments, music, costumes, instruction, travel, state and contest fees, set designs, technical equipment and more at a school with a majority population in financial need. This is accomplished primarily through perennial event revenue and individual membership contributions. Events include Dance Battle, Buy It For a Song, Cocoa and Carols, Java and Jazz, State Speech biannually, Frankfurter Festival, and the largest annual event hosted is the MoShow show choir competition. Other funding sources include corporate sponsorships and foundation grants.
This year the PPA will provide approximately half of all performing arts program budgetary needs and also execute several projects above and beyond the operating budget, including “In the Spotlight.” PPA also honors a performing arts hall of fame and inductees are highlighted outside of the school's band room and online.
