FAFSA & Scholarships

FAFSA 101

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is an application form that you must complete and submit to the government in order to receive federal financial aid. Once you fill it out, the government will share your information with your chosen schools.

The 24-25 FAFSA Application is now open!  Here is a FAFSA Information Sheet with some basic information you may need when completing the FAFSA application.

FAFSA Nights at Washington:  If you need help filing the FAFSA please use the Sign Up Genius Form linked to the dates to reserve your spot.  The dates are January 17th and January 23rd from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Room 128 on both dates.  These are by appointment only so we can make sure we can help those who come. If these dates or times do not work for you and your parent(s) OR the time that does work is already taken, you can schedule an individual appointment with Ms. Mangrich using this calendar link.  If your parents need a time that is after my available times just email me and I can usually find a date/time where I can stay later for an appointment.  You will need to have your FSA ID completed 7 days in advance of your appointment for both student/parent.

Priority Deadlines - The priority deadline is for students to be eligible to receive the maximum amount of dollars that could be awarded to you.  This does not mean you will automatically get scholarships if you meet this deadline but it does mean you will be eligible to receive those scholarships. It is important to note you can still apply and be accepted into college after the priority deadline but you will miss out on scholarships/grants you may have been eligible to receive.

You must complete a new FAFSA  each year you attend school.

The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) offers free assistance in filing the FAFSA. Students and families can sign up for an in-person or virtual appointment by using the registration link below.

Visit https://www.princetonreview.com/college-advice/fafsa-faqs for a more detailed look at FAFSA info.
